This year, the construction tech class, sponsored by Mr. Mohr, has begun another project! After the success of last year's building project at the Mark Preston residence, the students were excited about starting a new project. This project, at the home of Marv and Donna Larson, is the first project in which the class has built a section of a home. Their last project was a 25 by 26 foot two-car garage.

The project was started at the beginning of the school year and will continue well into next year. The main goal for this year is to finish the exterior of the building. Next year's project will consist of finishing the interior of the home which will include constucting cabinets to furnish the rooms of the addition. The addition will include a kitchen, dining room, sewing room, bathroom, and a mud room along with a two-car garage.

This project is strictly volunteer. The school is not paid for any of the labor involved and the students are rewarded only by the fantasic doughnuts that Donna makes. (Let's just say that the boys are more than happy when payday comes!) The Larsons furnish all of the supplies needed for the construction and all of the students are gaining a kind of education that they could only get through hands-on experience. Senior Bryce N., explained that, "This is the best way to learn. Some people just can't learn from books and this is a lot better than sitting in a class room."

The eight students working on this project include: (in order alphabetically) Caleb K., Bryce N., Philip C., Cade O., Tyler P., Rick S., Brent W., and Edward W. These students are required to see this as more than just school work. This is an actual job. The boys will put in about 10 to 15 hours of work a week in class. Sometimes the class continues to work outside of class because time is probably the biggest difficulty of the project. There just isn't enough time during class to get as much work done as they could. In spite of time being their biggest concern, the class hopes to complete the exterior of the addition by the end of the school year.

The boys haven't been in this project alone though. They have had lots of help and supervision from Mr. Mohr as well as Kent DeLosh, who helped teach the students about laying block, and Scott McDowell, who helped with the general excavation of the site.

Please remember to check back to this site. Pictures will be updated as soon as they are received, and at the end of the year, all of the pictures will range from beginning to end. The class is also trying to touch up some blue prints so we can include them on the site.
